21st century has witnessed a mammoth increase in garbage including plastic waste of households, which is a threat not only for human race but also for earth\'s environment. Thus, it is the need of time to seek an organized and well-structured mechanism to cope with this problem. Owing to this, world is moving towards smart systems to have the most efficient framework in dealing with the everyday garbage as it comprises of major chunk of waste material of cities and contributes heavily in environmental problems. Resultantly, smart cities with smart waste management systems can be the step in right direction. Smart cities are combination of several Internet of Things (IoT) systems that make human lives more comfortable and secured in every aspect. One of the applications of IoT is the effective management of garbage, which would ensure healthy environment for life on this green planet, with greater efficiency. The purpose of this research is to develop an IoT based cost-effective system that can monitor the everyday garbage in real time by using smart technology with the help of WeMos and Ultrasonic sensors, which eats meager resources of the waste management authorities. Results verify accurate real time monitoring of garbage inside garbage bins.
